I think I'll stick mainly to the part of the question about why they misuse a gift as opposed to the debate going on about whether psychic ability is for real. I do believe it's real, but I think that the people who misuse it, do so for greed. Money has been touched on by several other people, but not just money, fame ("look at ME", I'm special! mentality) is also something a lot of people are greedy for. I believe a good psychic who is working in Light will only use his/her gift for good and most of them don't make a whole of money and never take credit for their "achievements".
