Paranormal activity, spirits, demonic possessions. Real or not real?

I would like to hear from those who have had personnal experiences, proof, or evidence where they can shed some light to help me and others interested know what to believe.

I have had many paranormal/supernatural experiences, but the one I will share had many witnesses.

Summer 1997: I was hired as a Teaching Assistant on a 2-week University field road-trip. The focus was on American Indian sacred sites of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Students were getting credit in the area of Philosophy and American Indian Studies. The Professor was known for his research in the paranormal, and throughout his professional career was consulted to investigate "hauntings". The trip included many stops at historic sites, known "haunted" sites and state parks. (We traveled by coach bus and spent each night at a motel.) We had spent the day at Taquameqon Falls and the group was staying at a motel in Paradise Michigan, along the shore of Lake Superior. At dinner that night, one of the students pulled out a rock she had found that day. When she showed me the rock and placed it in my hand, I immediately had a negative reaction to it (this is unusual for me--because I really like rocks). I saw on the rock, an dark image that reminded me of the famous painting The Scream. I dropped it quickly and immediately started to wipe my hand against my jeans--as if I was trying to "remove" the evil. I then excused myself and went to wash my hand. I was uncomfortable with the situation and attempted to talk to the Professor leading the group to express my concerns. He said he would look into it in the morning--and turned in for the evening. Later that night, I was approached by an hysterical student--she begged me to come to her room because weird things were happening. I went to her room with another T.A. When we got to her room (she was sharing the room with the student who had found that rock) we immediately noticed a horrible stench. I know this sounds crazy, but I also felt a dark, heavy, evil presence. As I started to enter the room, objects in the room (an ash tray, a book and a lit candle flew across the room). I felt a heavy presence grab me, and throw me against the wall (with my face to the wall). The presense was crushing me up against the wall and I was having difficulty talking and breathing. Before I lost the complete ability to speak, I yelled to the other T.A. to get the professor. It was late, and it would mean waking him up, but the other T.A. ran to his room and he reluctantly came. In the meantime, several more students appeared at the door and witnessed the objects flying across the room. Despite the fact that my whole body was being crushed up against the wall, I managed to free my hand and I pointed to the nightstand. One of the braver students ran to the nightstand and opened the drawer--the rock was there. I gasped for breath but managed the words "the lake." The student tried to grab the rock, but could not, claiming it was like it was on fire. The professor and his wife finally got to the room and assessed the situation. He told his wife to take the rock and throw it into the lake. His wife and a few students ran toward the lake. I was still up against the wall and found myself being pushed down to the floor. I couldn't move, but it was like something very heavy was crushing me. He forcefully spoke some words in Ojibwa and then in English demanded the spirit to leave. He had some of the student onlookers grab my legs and pull me out of the room. Other students were sent to check on the progress of those sent to the lake and reported that the deed was done. The rock had been flung into the lake. The professor yelled something (directed at the spirit) and the objects stopped flying and the stench was gone. Outside of the room, I slowly regained my ability to move and speak. Although earlier in the evening the rock was of no interest to him, now he wanted to know everything about it. I was able to describe it in detail. The student who found the rock admitted she found it under a larger at the base of the lower falls. The professor's explanation was that long ago an evil spirit had been trapped in the rock. When the naive student picked it up, it gave the spirit new life. He said I was targeted by the spirit (referring to my "crushing" ordeal) because I had recognized it for what it was and the Spirit was attempting to silence me. He apologized for not listening to my concerns earlier. He said he would never question my judgment again. The irony that we battled a demon in Paradise was not lost on us.

I know this experience will be questioned, but I tell you honestly: truth is stranger than fiction. And this is one of the the true ones.
